Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are essential to providing families comfort and support during their stay at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley. By sharing their unique talents, time, and hearts, volunteers truly make our house feel like a home for our guest families.

Regular Volunteer Opportunities

Most regular volunteers serve one 2-3 hour per week during our normal operating hours, 9 am–9 pm daily. We prefer that new volunteers commit to a minimum of three months of service.

Our comprehensive volunteer application process includes: application, criminal background check, interview, and tour of the House.

Front Desk

Energetic, customer-service focused individuals are needed to answer phones, greet and assist guests, give tours, and assist with special projects as needed.

Shifts are available every day of the week during day and evening hours.

Heartwarmer volunteers help keep the House tidy, make sure our kitchen is clean and stocked, help prepare guest rooms, do laundry, assist with inventory and sorting, and complete other special projects as needed.

Ronald McDonald Family Room at Essentia Health

Ronald McDonald Family Room volunteers provide a warm, friendly, and supportive environment for families who have babies in the NICU at Essentia Health. They help keep the room neat and tidy, restock snacks and beverages, and assist families as needed. We ask that Ronald McDonald Family Room volunteers commit to at least 3 months of service, some flexibility available.

Special Skilled Volunteer

Do you have a unique skill or talent you’d like to share with families at the House?

We’d love to hear from you to see if we can find a place for you to share your talents. Thanks to generous volunteers, here are just a few ways volunteers have been able to support the House:

  • Special events including craft nights, art projects, and yoga classes
  • Mini concerts (musicians play for our families)
  • Pet therapy (must be certified by Therapy Dogs International or Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs)
  • Development projects including helping with mailings, event preparation, and assembling gift bags.
  • Handmade quilts (smaller toddler/baby size preferred)
  • Hand knit baby top, hat, or preemie booties. Click here for free patterns for the Lazy Daisy Baby top, hat, and preemie booties.

Are you handy around the house? Do you enjoy completing minor repair projects and keeping busy?

Our House needs active maintenance volunteers willing to tackle a variety of odd jobs including minor repairs, painting, putting together items, and other projects as needed. Maintenance volunteers are needed on an as needed basis typically during Monday – Friday.
