We would love your help as a volunteer to make a difference in the lives of the families that walk through our doors every day. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Below you will see some typical volunteer activities – this list if not exclusive and we are always open to new ideas!
We welcome volunteers Monday – Friday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. Saturdays & Sunday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Typical Activities:
Heartwarmer Volunteer
- Assist house staff with phones, guest and clerical needs
- Assist with day to day activities of the House
- Assist families with check in/out
- Help with volunteer groups
- Give tours as needed
- Heartwarmers should fill out a volunteer application
- Heartwarmer volunteers should complete an orientation and training

Individuals and Groups
- Baking and preparing a meal (more information below)
- Assisting with mailings
- Light housekeeping
- Raking yard (seasonal)
- Decorating (limited – seasonal)
- Special Events
- Offer your professional skills to families (haircuts, massages, manicures, etc.)
- Host a pizza party, ice cream social, or popcorn & movie night
- Make quilts, afghans, knitted hats or mittens
Baking and Preparing a Meal – “Home for Dinner”
- Plan for 12 adults
- Meals and baked good must be prepared on site
- Volunteers are responsible for planning the meal and picking up grocery items needed
- After making your meal, you are welcome to join the family members as they eat and enjoy the meal with them
- Hot items prepared prior to mealtime may be placed in a crock pot to keep them warm
- Baked goods may be placed on the counter for families to enjoy or placed in containers suitable for freezing and placed in the community fried/freezer
- We have pots, pans, cooking utensils, mixers, and other items to help prepare you meal. If your meal requires something specialized, you may want to bring your own items or check ahead of time with Ruth
- Volunteers need to clean up the kitchen when they are done cooking
Kids
- Those looking to volunteer on location that are younger than 16, must be accompanied by an adult
- Decorate ornaments for our annual Giving Tree Program
- Download & print your ornaments here.
- Collect Pop Tabs
- Decorate welcome bags
- Hold a food drive
- Have a “penny war” at your school
